Past to present – an old and new church
Ravenscourt Baptist Church is both one of the oldest and the newest Baptist churches in London.
Its origins date back to 1793 when as West End Baptist Church a meeting was formed in the Hammersmith area which eventually moved to its current site on Ravenscourt Road, Hammersmith in the 1970s. In the 1990s and the early years of the new century attendance at the meetings of the church had dwindled.
The church was relaunched in 2007 as Ravenscourt Baptist Church to better reflect the neighbourhood where it was based. This name change also reflected the new congregation that was part of the church’s mission. Those who had been members of West End Baptist Church had joined together with those who were previously members of Shepherds Bush Baptist Church and were joined by an increasing number of new faces and a new pastor, Darren Hirst.
The church seeks to be an effective part of its local community and to share the love of Jesus Christ with all who will listen regardless of background or current beliefs. We want to be a source for good and love in the neighbourhood, seeking to teach the Bible, worship God and help those who are in need both here and overseas.
